Dr. Fugaro was born in New York, but moved with his family at a young age and was raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. Dr. Fugaro graduated from West Virginia University in 1991 with a Bachelor Degree in Biology. In 1995 he graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Dentistry, during which time he received the Navy Health Professional Scholarship.
Upon graduation, Dr. Fugaro began a distinguished 10-year period of military service as a Dental Officer in the United States Navy Dental Corps. Dr. Fugaro’s duty stations included Okinawa, San Diego, Bremerton and Camp Pendleton. During his naval career he had a wide range of experiences including; dental officer aboard USS BRIDGE, a clinic director position and serving with the Marines in Iraq.

While in the Navy Dr. Fugaro was selected for advanced training at Indiana University School of Dentistry. He graduated in 2002 with a Master of Science in Dentistry (MSD) in operative dentistry, with a certificate of study in preventive dentistry, and a minor in dental materials. During his graduated program Dr. Fugaro was extensively involved in clinical research, which lead to publication in highly regarded dental journals.
Dr. Fugaro is the only general dentist active on Bainbridge Island that is Board Certified by the American Board of Operative Dentistry, of which he is the 44th person to achieve this distinction since the Board's inception in 1980.
Based on this advanced training and prior experiences, Dr. Fugaro is highly proficient in all aspects of the various restorative options available and has extensive knowledge of the dental materials required to provide the best possible restoration. Dr. Fugaro is also well versed in the various preventive techniques available to prevent and/or arrest the onset of dental disease.

Dr. Fugaro is married to the former Dr. Jessica Gonzalez-Ochoa of Mexico City, Mexico. They meet while they were both pursuing their Masters Degrees in Operative Dentistry at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. They were married in 2001 and have three boys Pablo (born in 2002), Jacob (born in 2005) and Matthew (born in 2006).
